Only one MLB team doesn't have a Pride Night. Why?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:25 GMT

All but one of the 30 of the Major League Baseball teams are hosting Pride Nights this season, most during Pride Month, which celebrates and supports LGBTQ+ culture and rights. The Texas Rangers are the only team without a Pride Night. But they say they are committed to making everyone feel welcome at all games.Have the Rangers ever hosted a Pride Night? No. In September 2003, two years after the Chicago Cubs hosted what is considered the first Pride game, the Rangers invited local LGBTQ+ groups to a game as part of a fundraising event, similar to what they do for all kinds of groups throughout each season. There were some Rangers fans who expressed opposition through a website beforehand and, while not widespread, there were some protests outside the stadium before that game.Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dane Dunning (33) is relieved by manager Bruce Bochy, second from left, in the eighth inning of a baseball game against the New York Yankees, Friday, June 23, 2023, in New York. Rockies Journal: D-backs showing Colorado how to build a winner

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:25 GMT

If the Rockies want to see how to turn things around, it would behoove them to look about 900 miles to the southwest. That’s where they’ll find the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team that lost 110 games in 2021 but currently leads the National League West with a 46-31 record. The Rockies (30-48) are stuck in the basement again, 16 1/2 games behind the D-backs.Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall has repeatedly said that he thought the team was another year from turning things around, but the players proved him wrong. The D-Backs look like the real deal, right now.The team from Phoenix rose from the ashes of truly bad baseball. In 2021, they finished 55 games out of first and were outscored by 204 runs. Fifth-year manager Torey Lovullo was on the hot seat, but the D-backs decided to give him a one-year, prove-it contract. They improved to 74-88 last season, showing a spark of promise. On June 4, Arizona announced that Lovullo was receiving a contract extension through 2024. The ma...

Elliott views pressure to make NASCAR playoffs as opportunity

LEBANON, Tenn. (AP) — Chase Elliott prefers to view a very challenging season as opportunity, not pressure. The 2022 Cup Series champ who won a career-high five races last year taking the regular season title sits 27th in the points standings as NASCAR returns from the lone break in its 38-race season. Elliott has started only nine of 16 races. A leg broken while snowboarding cost him six starts, a suspension another. The Cup Series’ most popular driver five years running sits 278 points behind leader Martin Truex Jr. with time running out to qualify for the playoffs. “We’re in a tough spot, but I think it’s a good opportunity to go and have some fun and embrace the challenge,” Elliott said. “And that’s really kind of where my head’s at.”All of NASCAR — Elliott especially — should be rested up for the stretch run starting Sunday night with the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. The 27-year-old Elliott should be a bit more rested than others after serving that suspension ...
