SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — Imagine being able to make a bet with this level of specificity: the Yankees’ Aaron Judge will hit a home run on the fourth pitch he sees in a given at bat, which will be a curveball spinning at a certain speed. That $5 bet could win you $5,000.Of course, it’s unbelievable unlikely to win. But it could be a part of sports betting in the very near future, panelists at a major sports betting conference said Wednesday.Speaking at the SBC Summit North America, officials with gambling companies and professional sports leagues agreed that more rapid-fire betting — lots more of it — is on the way as technology continues to evolve and legal sports betting expands to new markets.Andrew Bimson, president and chief operating officer in North America for the data company Sportradar, said microbetting is the fastest-growing segment of in-play betting. While comparatively small now, he estimated that microbetting could constitute $20 billion worth of bets by 2027.I...

But the truce efforts appeared to falter as fighting intensified late Wednesday, with neither side showing any sign of backing down. In a prime-time TV address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel had dealt a harsh blow to the militants. But he cautioned: “This round is not over.”“We say to the terrorists and those who send them. We see you everywhere. You can’t hide, and we choose the place and time to strike you,” he said, adding that Israel would also decide when calm is restored.Throughout the day, rocket fire set off air-raid sirens throughout southern and ...

ST. PAUL, Minn. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Residents in a northwest Austin neighborhood are banding together to stop the Austin Transportation Department from putting in over a dozen speedbumps on a busy street. The neighborhood is in a part of Austin that is at an elevated risk for wildfires, and Greystone Drive, where ATD plans to add the bumps, would be used as an evacuation route for some during a natural disaster event, neighbors told KXAN. To stop the project, nearly 650 neighbors from around 550 separate homes signed a petition. “What are you trying to do here? You know, if the goal is to reduce accidents, you can do that with neighborhood awareness,” Michelle Estrada, a resident in the neighborhood, said. “For the highest [fire] risk portion of the neighborhood, you would have to go through five speed bumps,” she continued. Estrada said many neighbors were unaware of ATDs plans until several concerned residents started the petition to slow down ATD. Through their campaign, the residents...

‘Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie’ an engaging and intimate window into star’s complex life

Apparently, the credit goes to Michael Harte. It was the idea of the editor of “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” says the documentary’s director, Davis Guggenheim, to use scenes from the beloved actor’s TV shows and movies to tell the story of Fox’s increasingly complicated life. The choice helps make “Still” — debuting this week on Apple TV+ following its premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival — a distinct viewing experience.Of course, were it not for the 61-year-old Fox — the one-time “Family Ties” and “Back to the Future” star who, at 29, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease — being so open about the battle with the affliction, so vulnerable as he reflects on his journey, “Still” wouldn’t be nearly as impactful as it is.“Still” begins with Parkinson’s, with the hungover morning in a Florida hotel room when Fox, in the middle of filming 1991’s “Doc Hollywood,” notices his pinky finger twitching.“The trembling was a message,” he says. “From the future.”Guggenheim (“An Inc...
